Welcome to the California Peregrine Project (CPP)

The CPP’s objective is to be a catalyst for understanding the long term health and wellbeing of California’s breeding peregrines.

The CPP undertakes and collaborates on monitoring the breeding population, long term research studying numerous ecological topics affecting peregrines and their habitat, and will periodically report on the status of peregrine falcons in California.

The CPP encourages and relies on volunteerism and collaboration by a diverse and dedicated group of peregrine enthusiasts, conservationists, bird watchers, raptor biologists, and natural historians.

The CPP is a repository for data on current and historical peregrine nesting information, for monitoring and reporting on peregrine population trends over time, and for coordinating focused efforts whenever specific challenges may threaten California’s peregrine population.

Grainger Hunt, Ph.D. has provided an essay on the importance of documenting subadult occupancy at nesting territories. We urge you to read this important essay, given the relevance to evidence of the impacts of avian flu on peregrines. An increase in subadults being members of nesting pairs my indicate the floater buffer has been depleted beyond sufficient “normal” levels. The data requested specific to this important topic can be recorded within the Observation Form provided herein.
